This is a sponsored post written on behalf of SANUS
Okay so here comes my very first sponsored-ish post!
Sanus TV Mount contacted me by email offering a product to review and giveaway! How awesome is that?
Basically, Sanus TV and Safe Kids Worldwide are joining forces and forming a safety initiative!
Sanus TV is helping to promote a major child safety issue that a lot of parents don’t think about!
Who doesn’t love a flat panel TV, right? Well, what most parents don’t think about is how EASY it is to knock over such a thin TV. They may be heavy (hence the danger) but they tip easy!
These accidents, caused by bumping/pulling/climbing, have been known to cause severe injury and even death! The email these guys sent to me had some pretty scary statistics in it!!
To quote a few:
Pulled from their email and seen on a few other sources.
“A 2011 US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) report on flat panel TV safety revealed:
- A child is killed every three weeks from an unsecured TV
- Every 45 minutes a child visits an emergency room due to a TV tip-over related injury
- Between 2000 and 2011, 215 fatalities have resulted from TV tip-over
- An estimated 17,000 people each year, the majority of which are children, are treated for injuries from TV tip-overs
- Reported cases have increased almost 25% from 2006 to 2010, and over the last 10 years, injuries have increased by 31%”
I did some research and found several lists of how to baby/toddler proof your house and guess what? NOT A SINGLE ONE MENTIONS THE TV! Well other than figuring out a way to keep them away from the buttons.
Flat screen TVs are becoming more and more popular as well as becoming much larger and heavier! Even though they are thinner, they can still cause quite a bit of damage!
I know about a year ago we had a small scare in our daughters room. A friend was over with her son and he decided to try and climb on the TV stand. Luckily it was just a small kids TV and not a major heavy one (it wasn’t even a flat panel). However, the bang that we heard and the screams and cries that came from that room made my heart drop until I saw both sweet angels come walking out.
Unfortunately, the TV was ruined and it has taken us quite a while to replace it. Yet another reason not to leave them within reach of the youngsters!
We now have 3 flat panel TVs in our house! One in the girl’s playroom, one in our bedroom, and of course a big one in the living room. Not a single one is mounted! They are all on TV stands. While Emalee has always been awesome and I’m pretty sure she will never pull one down…with a new baby in the house I have a whole new personality to work with. What if she doesn’t listen as well as Emalee did? What if she is a climber?
So, now that we have talked about why this Kids Safety Initiative is so dang important…let’s talk about the Sanus TV Mount.
